# Connect Codex

> Choose access for Watchdog in the Codex app or terminal.

Check [availability and permissions](/guides/mcp) before setting up a connection.

## Connect

Add this to `~/.codex/config.toml`. The app and terminal use the same configuration:

```toml theme={null}
[mcp_servers.watchdog]
url = "https://mcp.watchdog.no/mcp/readonly"
scopes = ["watchdog"]
```

Then run `codex mcp login watchdog`, or restart the Codex app and select **Authenticate** for
Watchdog in **Settings → MCP servers**. Sign in through your browser and approve access.

Set `scopes` before you sign in. Without it, Codex also asks for your profile and an
organization, which Watchdog does not use. For the same reason, don't use `codex mcp add`: it
signs in straight away. See the [Codex configuration reference](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/config-file/config-reference).

## Allow changes

Change `url` in the same entry to `https://mcp.watchdog.no/mcp`. Run `codex mcp login watchdog`
again, then restart or reconnect Codex so it refreshes the available actions. Codex asks you to
approve each change before it runs.

## Check and disconnect

Use `codex mcp list` or `/mcp` to inspect the connection, then try an
[example task](/guides/mcp/working-with-watchdog).

`codex mcp logout watchdog` removes the saved sign-in. See [Disconnect](/guides/mcp#disconnect)
for how to cancel the access itself, or [connection help](/guides/mcp/troubleshooting).
