# Edit an alert topic

> Edits the title, description, and key questions. Text is trimmed and an empty string clears the field. The description is Markdown; inline citations must use the source numbers stored for the topic. A locked topic returns 409; unlock it first. Sending the current values changes nothing. The last write wins. No model work or categorization starts.
